Stoke Man Gets Decapitated, Goes To Port Vale Vs Stoke City Match Anyway

Plucky 54 year old Potbank supervisor Allen Oatcake from Burslem lost his entire head and one of his arms in a freak kiln accident. Despite his extensive injuries, he has managed to attend a Port Vale vs Stoke City match, and raise money for the lost souls of Hanley bus station.

Writing on a paper bag with his remaining hand, Allen simply said:

“I’ve got no head duck. Ah well. Never mind. It’ll be rayt,”

After recovering in hospital, during which the family feared he might not make it, the close-knit Burslem community rallied around. Allen’s wife Emma Oatcakes said:

“We raised over £200 to buy White Lightening and fags for all of the drunk people that hop around Hanley Bus Station on crutches. The lad that tells everyone he sleeps in the car park and asks them for a quid when they’re queuing for the bus was really pleased. But the real breakthrough came when Port Vale were playing against Stoke City. That’s it, he had to go to the match.

“We Sellotaped some knee pads and cushions to him so he wouldn’t get hurt when he walked into things, and off he went. He even managed to go to the Glebe afterwards for a pint. Of course, he couldn’t drink it because he hasn’t got a face or a mouth any more. But it was just lovely to see him back to his old self,”

A concert featuring eleven Robbie Williams tribute acts in support of Allen Oatcake is planned for the summer.

That tale of true pluck and courage has brought tears to my eyes. It could also be due to the decongestion stuff I have been ramming up my nose, but my money is on the raw emotional nerve that story encapsulates

  2. No mention of the 3 penalties, 4 sending offs, or the terrible decisions by the nearside linesman. All in all a terrible match report.
I had to phone Port Vale’s under 21’s manager to get the final result of the game and a brief talk-through of the highlights.

I expect more from the sports pages of Beezly Street Gazette.

  3. OOPS………
I’ve just realised this was in the news section and NOT the sports section. I hope no staff have been reprimanded due to my error or complaints.
